Horace Barwick Died In Korea

Funeral services for the first soldier from this area to fall on a Korean battlefield will be held Sunday and Tyndall AFB will furnish a bunal party, it was announced today.
The soldier was Horace J. Barwick (age and rank unavailable).
His body is now enroute here from Korea and is scheduled to arrive in Marianna at 2 a. m. Sunday. His widow. Mrs. Clara Barwick resides at Drummond Park. Other survivors are reported to live at Cottonwood, Al. Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for 2 p. in Sunday in
charge of the Carl Neal Mortuary at Marianna. Burial will be at
Cottonwood The Tyndell AFB burial party will include a firing squad and honor guard, pallbearer'ss and bugler. - PANAMA CITY, FLORIDA, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1950

The body of the first Wiregrass Serviceman to be returned to the U S. from Korea will be buried with full military honors in Howard-Grove Cemetery, near Cottonwood, this afternoon.
Sgt Horrace James Barwick, 19 died in an Army hospital in Japan , after being wounded In Korea .
His body was scheduled to arrive here this morning. Prior to interment, funeral services will be held at the Marianna Church ol God with the Rev. F. H Daniels of Bristol officiating. Military honors will be accorded by a unit from Tynall Air Force Base, Panama City.

Sgt Barwick was the husband of Mrs Claia Belle Barwick, Panama City and the son of Mr and Mrs Jessie Barwick of Marianna. Othet survivors include four brothers, Udon, C D. Rudolph and Jackie Barwick, all of Manianna. Six sisters, Mrs Mary Francis Cobb, and Mrs Louise McAlpie both of Sneads. Misses Joyce, Eloise, Hazel and Doris all of Marianna.
