He was born on September 12, 1926 in Bremen, Ohio to the late John C. and Blanche M. (Schmelzer) Funk.
Richard served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from the Diamond Power Corporation after 39 years. Richard was a member of St. Mark Church and the Olivedale Senior Citizens Center.
Richard is survived by his sons, Thomas E. (Betty) Funk of Lancasterm David R. Funk of Reynolsburg, Ohio, James L. (Leesa) Funk of Lancaster; grandchildren, Kevin (Kacie), Brian (Jodi), Jason (Amy), Travis (Emily); great-grandchildren, Ellie, Landen, Lillia, Roman; step-children, Brian, Robbie, Mary Ann, David, Julie, Laurie; and many great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Kathy) Funk of Illinois, Paul (Laura) Funk of Lancaster, Don (Leona) Funk of Lancaster; sister, Gertrude Hale of Lancaster; brother-in-law, Carl Capron; sister-in-law, Dorothy Shafer; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Thelma (Capron) Funk, 2nd wife, Mary Nellie (Sanner) Kaufman Funk; his parents; step-children, Gary Kaufman and Barbara Anderson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Thursday May 10, 2012 at St. Mark Church with Fr. Peter Gideon and Msgr David Funk as co-celebrants.
Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday May 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME with virgil service at 8:00 P.M..
