Edwin M. MAHONEY 76, passed away March 6 at his home in Renton after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. During his years of service he was involved with the early sonar system developed by the Navy. After retirement, he settled in the Northwest and worked as a lead electrician at Todd Shipyards.
An avid all sports fan, golf and football were his favorites. He had golf buddies in Washington and in Lakeland, Florida where he spent his winters the past six years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Berna, in 1996, and by his sons Michael and Richard. He is survived by his sisters Peggy Moore and Joan Fangman, in Iowa, by his grandson Michael Leavitt, and his sister-in-law Relta Gray, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his loving caregivers, Carri Voss and Jane Herrmann and his faithful little dog, T.J.
Services will be Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at Greens Bellevue Funeral Home, 1215 - 145th Pl. S.E., Bellevue.
