Obituary.
Mrs. Mary E. Collier Benning was born May 3rd, 1841, near Huntsville, Mo., much of the earlier part of her life was spent in Livingston county, Mo. She took a high school course at Linneus. When 18 years of age she graduated from Mt. Pleasant College, Hunthville, Mo., December 12. 1873. While a resident of Macon, she was married to Dr. H. P. Benning of Callao, Mo., at which place she had since resided.
Five children blessed this union, four still living: Mrs. Victor Grove, Callao; H. L. Benning, Fort Smith, Ark.; Mrs. C. L. Randall, Neodesha, Kansas, and Miss Anna Benning, Callao. There were also 3 step children, one living, Mrs. Jennie Campbell of Callao. She professed religion when 15 years of age and united with the Huntsville Baptist church. She was one of the charter members of Callao Baptist church. She had served as clerk of this church ever since its organization.
After a short illness she passed away Sunday night April 27 (sic), 1917, age 75 years, 11 months and 26 days.
A number of relatives and many friends mourn her departure. Thus ends the career of a most remarkable woman.
The memory of her beautiful and useful life will prove a blessing to all who knew her. Her children will rise up and call her blessed and her works shall praise her. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. M. L. Heifner of Macon. She was buried in the new cemetery at Callao.
