Mildred M. Hall passed away at the age of 101. She was born to William and Nettie (Smith) Marshall. She attended Shortridge High School and graduated from Attucks in 1929 due to school segregation. Mildred was admitted to Madame Blaker's Teachers College and completed a two-year course in 1932. In 1948 she completed her Bachelor of Science from Butler University. Mildred began her teaching career in IPS in 1937 at School 56. She also taught at Schools 26, and 62 retiring in 1970 after 33 years of service. Mildred became a member of Allen Chapel AME Church in 1939. She directed the Children's Choir from 1941-1945. In December, 1941 Mildred was united in marriage to Luther E. Hall, Jr in a ceremony at Ft. Huachuca, AZ where he was stationed as Sgt. of C. Co. 368th Infantry, 93rd Division. Mildred was a Life Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, National Council of Negro Women, Alpha Home Guild, Flanner House Guild, and The Happy Gardeners Club. Mildred was preceded in death in by her husband, Luther E. Hall, Jr.; parents; brother, William; sisters, Frances and Oneida. Survivors who cherish her memory are son, Luther E. Hall, III; in-laws, Sue Miller (Guy), Nancy Jo Price, and Eolen Burris of Indianapolis, IN; also survived by granddaughters, Lorraine Miller (Brad), Jacqueline Hall, and Sharon Hall; great-grandchildren, Karlissa Carpenter and Xavier Carpenter. Also, a host of relatives. Services will be at Crown Hill Funeral Home, Indianapolis on May 3, 2012, with calling prior to the service. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
