Maudene Carter Shuman, 81, of Hoboken was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, April 28, 2012 after a short illness. She was born in Bacon County to the late Oden and Susie Morgan Carter and lived in Hoboken for most of her life. Mrs. Shuman was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of grandchildren and crocheting.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Shuman; two sisters, Vesta Rainwater and Gwenlene McQuaig.

Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Shuman of Hoboken; two daughters, Diane S. Mayo and her husband Edwin of St. Simons Island, GA, Kim S. Hughes; two sons, Mike Shuman and his wife Sarah, Tony Shuman all of Hoboken; 11 grandchildren, Heather Tucker and her husband Alan, Kelly Edgy and her husband Marcus, Lori John and her husband William, Jill Jordan and her husband Justin, Megan A. Shuman, Reva King and her husband Tony, Brad Campbell, Donald A. Shuman, Jr., John Michael Shuman, Jr., Derek Hughes, Ryan Hughes; ten great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Newlene Johnson and her husband Leo of Hoboken; three brothers, Olen Carter and his wife Iris of Hoboken, Gerald Carter and his wife Vickie of Hoboken, Johnny Carter and his wife Louise of Belleview, FL; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 11 am at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in High Bluff Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
