Mrs. Stoppel, 77, of Aiken, SC, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers after a sudden illness. Born on April
1st, 1934 in Highland Park, Michigan, she was the only child of the late
Angus McKenzie and Rena Mae (Patterson) McKenzie.
She graduated from Michigan State University in 1954 and was an active
member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and has enjoyed lifelong friends from her
college and high school days.
Gail had a beautiful spirit, a wonderful sense of humor, found the sacred
in the secular, and will be sorely missed by her family and her friends.
Gail lived a rich life and enjoyed the many blessings of family and
friends. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, theater, walking the beach,
and found great joy in the small and spectacular things that life offered.
She and Dean travelled extensively with friends and have been long time
active participants in faith communities including the First Presbyterian
Church of Stamford, CT and the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, SC.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dean, whom she married on July 12, 1955; two daughters, Kristin (Grier) Fleischhauer and Leslie (Forest)
Gordon; seven grandchildren and the recent joyful addition of a great
grandson.
