Raymond Akins went to be with our Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2012. He was peacefully, with no suffering in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family at the age of 83. Raymond was born October 21, 1928, in Blaine Bottom near Star, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Etta (Dunkin) Akins, his brothers Carl, Thurmon, Doyle and Hershel. Raymond was a member of the Cowlington First Baptist Church and he also served as a deacon for several years. He loved going to church and hearing Brittney and Jamie singing Victory in Jesus for him on Sundays. He was an avid quail hunter for many years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren; He was like a Dad to all three. His great grand were the joy of his life.
Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., at Cowlington First Baptist Church with Reverend Brandon Mooneyham (grandson) officiating, Reverend Vic Neve, home church pastor, reading ulogy. Reverend Jerry Underwood and Reverend Joey Underwood (nephews) will hold closing service at gravesite with interment at Spiro City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Raymond is survived by his wife Louise of 62 years, one daughter Pam McCain and husband James, Three grandchildren Brandon Mooneyham and wife Angie, Brittney McCain, Jamie McCain and fiancé Kyle Jackson. Three great grandchildren Westin, Rylan and Kannon and baby boy to be born in May, two sisters Ora and Joe Dees, Ila and Joe Underwood, one brother in law Clarence Meadows, Jr., many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Music will be provided by Vic, Taylor and Norma Neve, Becky Perkins and Ed Blankenship. Pallbearers are nephews Darrell and John Dees, Marty and David Akins, friends Dobber and Mike Gamble. Honorary pallbearers Kyle Jackson, Gary Harper, Jim Gist nephews Larry Turner, Ronnie Underwood, Michael Akins and Micael Catlett.
