Karen Louise Decker, 70, of Fairmont (Norway Community), passed from this life early Friday morning (April 20, 2012) in her home under Hospice care, with her family by her side, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Fairmont on Feb. 14, 1942, a daughter of the late Grant H. Yates and Evelyn L. Johnson Yates Heck. Karen was a Christian by faith. She was the co-owner/operator of Deckers Residential Board and Care Home for many years. She loved designing and creating a variety of crafts as well as sewing, shopping and reading whatever books she could get her hands on. She especially loved being able to do for others. She is survived by four daughters and two sons, Karen and Paul Sell of Jonestown, Pa., Michelle and Eric Mallamo of Fairmont, Laura and Mike Riggleman of Fairmont, Tory Decker and her companion Bobby Nichols of Fairmont, Billy and Sally White of Perry, Iowa, and Kenny and Beverly Decker of Fairmont; two brothers and two sisters, Grant Allen Yates and wife Racheal of Fairmont, Merle Yates and wife Peggy of North Carolina, Holly Pander and husband Chuck of Fairmont, and Jennifer Bohn and husband Gary of Fairmont; 14 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Cheryl Yates of Colorado. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Eugene "Bunny" Decker, on Dec. 8, 2009; one brother, Edward Yates; her stepmother, Nellie Yates; and her stepfather, Delmer Heck.
Friends may call at Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Chris Hillberry officiating. Interment will follow at Clermont Cemetery
