Elias Asmar passed away in Pensacola, FL on October 3, 2005 following a prolonged illness. Dr. Asmar was born in Laurel, MS and had resided in Pensacola for the past 35 years.

He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and a Masters degree in Guidance Counseling, and later received his Doctorate of Education from Nova University. While a student at Southern Miss, his National Guard unit was called into action during the Korean Conflict where he served his country as a Sergeant in the Army.

After teaching secondary school for some years and while teaching at Milton High School, where he was head of the Math Dept, he founded the JayBees, a project of the Milton JayCees of which he was president at the time. He also helped organize the Junior Miss pageant in Florida. He later became a guidance counselor at Pensacola Junior College and retired as a professor after 30+ years there.

He was a founding member and president of the Cedars Club of Pensacola for many years and a member of the Southern Federation, as well as the Lebanese-American Club of Mobile. He served as board member and past president of the Center for Independent Living. Throughout his career, he maintained fraternal and professional ties in many organizations. His hobbies included cooking, gardening, traveling and singing with Gulf Coast Chorale, the Choral Society and the Pensacola Opera Chorus.

He was a devout Catholic and an active church member throughout the Pensacola-Tallahassee Diocese. He was a pro-life advocate and exercised active leadership in the Pensacola and Florida Right to Life movement.

Elias was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother and is survived by his loving wife, Amelia; his four sons and their wives, Philip and wife, Guerry, Johnson City Tennessee, John, Pensacola, Joel and wife, Meri, Pensacola, and Christopher and wife, Heather, Mobile, AL; a sweet granddaughter, Abigail; along with his brother-in-law, Ted and his wife, Opel; sister-in-law Marie; several dear cousins, nieces and nephews; and his many professional and personal friends and notably his many Circle K friends.

Pallbearers will be Michael Elias, Tommy Elias, M.M. "Bo" Asmar, Robert Dybowski, Ken Laurendine, and Charles "Doug" Lambert.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 6 at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with Rosary at 5:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Friday, October 7 at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church at 10:15 a.m. with the Rev. R. Hector R.G. Perez, S.T.D. officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Harper Morris Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
