UPLAND, Calif. -- Robert Healy Elwell, M.D., 75, of Upland, formerly of Bennington, Vt., and Glens Falls, N.Y., passed away June 5, 2007, at San Antonio Community Hospital, Upland.
He was born May 28, 1932, in Bennington and was an Upland resident 17 years and an Army veteran.
Dr. Elwell graduated from Columbia College in New York City with a bachelor's and master's degrees in 1955 and then attended the University of Vermont College of Medicine, graduating with honors in 1959. His internship and residency were at Walter Reed General Hospital, Washington, D.C., and upon completion was assigned to Brooke Army Hospital, San Antonio, Texas, as acting chief of neurology. He later was appointed assistant professor of neurology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
Beginning in 1970 he maintained a private practice in Glens Falls, N.Y., for 20 years. His professional membership included the American Academy of Neurology, American Epilepsy Society, Stroke Council, American Heart Association; American Association of EMG and Electrodiagnostics; American EEG Society and the American Medical Association.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, of Upland; three children, Deana Elwell and Wendy Elwell, both of Los Angeles; Robert Scott Elwell, Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Jon Bryan Elwell, Middletown, R.I.; one sister Patricia Graham, Manchester Center, Vt., and one granddaughter, Brenna.
Burial will be in Dellwood Cemetery, Manchester, Vt., at a later date. Stone Funeral Home, Upland, is in charge of cremation services. .
