Howard was a member of the Sugar Plain Friends Church of Thorntown. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shrine, Elks, American Legion, and Crawfordsville Country Club

He was proceeded in death by both of his wives, Betty Ann Little and Maxine Hampton, also brothers, Marion Scott Cook, and Willard Moser Cook and his parents.
