Bonnie Atchley, 82, at longtime Ashton resident, died on Saturday, November 28, 1998, in Idaho Falls, of complications from a stroke.

She was born in North Carolina, on December 17, 1915, to J. T. [Akery] and Sallie Mathis. When she was 10, her family moved to Felt. They later moved to Twin Falls, Washington state, and then to Marysville, near Ashton. She attended high school in Ashton. Her mother died when she was 17, and she cared for her four younger sisters, until she was married.

On April 6, 1934, she married Preston Arthur Atchley. They farmed and ranched all of their lives, and founded Flying A Ranch, Inc., a well-known seed potato farm. Her husband preceded her in death. She was an active member of the Ashton Community United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Ashton Senior Citizens, the Ashton Visitor Center, the Ashton Flea Market, and the Fremont County Fair, since its founding. She was also a member of the Idaho Cattlewoman's Association and received the 1989 Cattlewoman of the Year award. She was an avid flower gardener, and loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her two sons: Chan [Judy] Atchley of New Jersey, and Clen [Emma] Atchley of Ashton; three sisters: Veda Berger of Murray, Utah, Amy Daniel of Ogden, Utah, and Dolly [Lee] Manch of Norfolk, VA.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Trenna; one sister; and three brothers.

Funeral services were held in the Ashton Community United Methodist Church.
