The Civil War would play heavily in her life, as her brother was the famous John Hunt Morgan. Her brother-in-law happened to be General Ambrose Powell Hill, who was married to her sister, Catherine, known as "Kitty." It would not end there, as she herself on 19 June 1861 married Basil Wilson Duke, who would also end up in the Civil War history books.
She would see enough Civil War tragedy within her own family, as at one time, 4 of her brothers would be in an Ohio prison, as guests of the Yankies.
Her brother and her brother-in-law A.P.Hill would both loose their lives before wars end. However, Basil would return home to her.
They would reside in Louisville, Kentucky, where she would die of a sudden heart attack.
