Isabella Jane Crews was the eighth child and fourth daughter of James and Sarah Earl Crews. She married Benjamin Willis Hicks and they had seven children.

The seventh child [not counting Alan] of James and Sarah Earl Crews was Isabella Jane Crews, born August 24th, 1829, married Benjamin W., youngest son of Abner and Elizabeth Harris Hicks, and died September 4th, 1913. Her descendants under name of my father. She was on good terms with all her neighbors. Nobody ever heard anything she told or repeated to the discredit of others. She never crossed or quarreled with my father. I never heard of her asking him for money or having a pocketbook. He did the buying and paying of bills. She was entirely loyal to the Crewses, yet she was on the best terms with all of the Hickses. In the establishment and maintenance of a home and rearing a family she did her part nobly and well. She survived my father nearly 14 years. Her body is lying by the side of his. If any one ever had better parents than the children of my parents he was indeed fortunate.
Her oldest child, Rosalie Hicks Harris was my mother's (Rosalie Yerkes Figge) grandmother. When my grandmother (Myrtle Harris Yerkes) wanted a four generation photo taken, she was concerned that this would be a 'graven image' which would be not appropriate according to the Bible. The two great grandmothers conferred and decided that if their granddaughter approved of it, it would not be wrong. There are only three known images of Isabella. One is the four generation photo.
At the time of the 1910 census she was living on the original family farm White Oak Villa with her son-in-law James Cozart, her daughter Magnoia and two grandchildren. According to her son T.T. Hicks, she was laid to rest beside her husband who pre-deceased her but her grave is, at present, unmarked. Three of her children who also predeceased her are also in this cemetery.

She was buried next to her husband. Her grave may not be marked or it may be a stone that was noted as broken and unreadable in 1998.
