James served a hitch in the US Army during World War Two, and after discharge, was employed at the Westerly Hospital, Westerly, Rhode Island as a Maintenance Man. Second is Pauline Cameron Pitcher, age about 24, whom James married about 1942. They had one daughter. This marriage ended in divorce in 1954.
Third is Mary Emily Gardiner, whom James married in 1955; they had four daughters. This marriage ended in divorce.
Fourth is Joanne Crane Colt McGowan, whom James married in 1968. There's no record this marriage produced children, and the marriage ended in divorce in 1979.
In later years, James lived with a companion, Ida DePerry, and when James died in 1989, his remains were cremated and his ashes scattered by his companion, Ida; where she scattered the ashes is a mystery.
