Obituary for James Norden
Jim H. Norden, 67, of Harrison, SD passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 11, 2011 at Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center, SD. A Committal Service will follow at the Aurora Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Mount Funeral Home in Platte, SD with 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.
James Henry Norden was born on May 28, 1943 in Joubert Township, Douglas County, South Dakota to Jake & Rickie (Tiemens) Norden. He attended Tiemens Country School and continued to learn his passion for farming by working with local farmers. At the age of 19, one of Jim's many achievements was his well remembered hay hauling business. He did this for several years and was known to accept any challenge.
On February 21, 1964 he was united in marriage to Norma Iedema at the Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center where he was also a member. They continued to move hay and began their family. Later they started farming on the Norden-Tiemens homestead full time. He served as Treasurer for the Joubert Township Board for 13 years. Whatever he did he worked hard at, but he made sure to have fun too. There were many memories made with his family and friends involving his hobbies of building and driving race cars.
Jim also enjoyed being outdoors with his family and friends having cookouts and gatherings or taking a Sunday drive. There were always good stories to share. He was a loving, kind hearted man that made time for everyone. He enjoyed sharing stories with his buddies around a full pot of coffee.
Grateful for sharing in Jim's life: his wife of more than 47 years, Norma Norden of Harrison, SD; their five children: Nancy Pheifer and husband, Randy of Platte, SD, Rhonda Van Den Hoek and husband, Darwin of Platte, SD, Cheryl Bordewyk and husband, Troy of Corsica, SD, James Norden and wife, Lorra of Platte, SD and Debbie Van Genderen and husband, Devin of Mitchell, SD; nine grandchildren: Nakayla, Rheanna, Kamilla, Karleah, Jhena, Jonathan, Chalee, Dayson, and Lillian; four siblings: Ruth Vanden Bos and husband, Melvin of Platte, SD, Gerrit Norden and wife, Gwen of Corsica, SD, Carol Rexwinkel and husband, Elwood of Corsica, SD and Charlotte Nicolaisen and husband, Steve of Mitchell, SD; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Rickie Norden.
