Rickie Norden, 99, of Platte, SD passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Platte Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center, SD. A Committal Service will follow at the Aurora Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte, with 3:00 P.M. Prayer Service. The family will be present from 2 – 4 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rickie's honor may be directed to: Aurora Reformed Church Cemetery Fund, 38025 266th St., Stickney, SD 57375.
Hendricka "Rickie" Norden was born on August 22, 1911 in Joubert Township, Douglas County, SD to Gerrit and Minnie (Teeslink) Tiemens. She attended Tiemens Country School through the 8th grade and moved to Denver, CO for work in the 1930's. On September 8, 1936 she was united in marriage to Jake Norden.
In 1940 they moved back to South Dakota to farm on the Tiemens homestead in Douglas County. They remained there until retirement in 1975 when they relocated to Stickney, SD. In 1987 they moved to Platte, SD and in July of 2007, she became a resident of the Platte Care Center. She was well known for quilting abilities.
Grateful for having shared in Rickie's life: her five children: Ruth Vanden Bos and husband, Melvin of Platte, SD, Jim Norden and wife, Norma of Harrison, SD, Gerrit Norden and wife, Gwen of Corsica, SD, Carol Rexwinkel and husband, Elwood of Corsica, SD and Charlotte Nicolaisen and husband, Steve of Mitchell, SD; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Rickie was preceded in death by: her husband, Jake (2002); a great granddaughter; her parents, Gerrit and Minnie Tiemens; two brothers: John and Herman Tiemens and two sisters: Johanna Sterk and Dena Bolt.
