On 21 Nov 1945, Placido enlisted and entered into service in the US Army Air Corps at Fort MacArthur, California. He was described as 5' 8", 150 pounds, dark brown eyes, black hair, and a student. He served as a clerk with Squadron Z, 245th Army Air Force Base Unit. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. On 4 Dec 1946, Placido was honorably discharged as a sergeant at Davis Monthan Field, Tucson, Arizona and issued a lapel button (WD AGO Form 53-55).

Placido was the son of Nicolas Griego and Rita Solano. He married Beatris Muñis and they had an identified child, John Patrick Griego (NM War Records Library).
