According to Dempsey family history and the Family Bible kept by Edward's granddaughter Jane Carmichael, he was widowed twice and remarried a Janet Christie and a Sarah.
Additional children born in Co Antrim include two sons, Robert Franklin 1824-1876 who died in Illinois and Stewart born in 1831 who may have died young.
On the 1881 census Edward and his third wife Sarah are listed living in Edwardsburgh, Grenville County, with Edward working as a farmer at 82. He passed away before 1891.
