Born in Germany, August was the son of Justine and the late Ludwig Schachtschneider. In 1881 he came to America with his mother and brother, William. On March 12, 1896, he was united in marriage to Amelia Stark. The couple made their home on a farm in the town of Fulton where they resided until 1937, when they moved to Janesville, Wisconsin.
Survivors include 3 sons, Harold, Carl E. and August W. "Bill" Schachtschneider, 3 daughters, Ann (Lawrence) Randall, Edna (John) Brummond and Mrs. Charles Hawthorn; and 3 grandchildren.
