Funeral services for Benita G. Barrera, 93, of New Deal will be at 10 a.m. Saturday April 14, 2012 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Father Anthony Phelps officiating.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
Burial will be at Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
Benita passed away on Tuesday April 10, 2012 surrounded by her family.
She was born to Jose and Benigna Garcia on April 16, 1918 in Asherton, Texas.
She married Pedro Barrera on 1945 in Toledo, Ohio. He died on 2008.
Benita was a Guadalupana at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church in New Deal.
She will be remembered by her loved ones for being the heart of the family.
She was strong in her faith and always patient and kind. Benita loved her husband and her family.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Pedro (Chavela) Barrera Jr.; daughters, Maria Gloria Arellano, Sandy Burns, Maria Alicia Luna, Norma (Sam) Velasquez, Rosalinda Pe a, Nora (Eddie) Gamez, Gracie (Joe) Garcia and Carolyn Herrera; two brothers, Ramon Garcia and Cirilo Garcia; sister, Luciana Gomez; 33 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Jesse Garcia, Diana Barrera and Nora Medellin.
