YORK Elwood W. “Coop” Cooper, Sr., 86, died at 3:08 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Manor Care Health Services – North. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Frigm) Cooper who died September 16, 2002. The service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 301 W. Philadelphia St., York with her pastors, the Rev. Norman E. Spangler, the Rev. Craig Newton and the Rev. Roy Stetler officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Viewings will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Mr. Cooper was born August 9, 1917, in York. He was the son of the late William P. and Lottie May (Heilman) Cooper. Mr. Cooper retired in 1979 as a Group Leader in Navy Packaging at the former Borg Warner after 38 years of service. He was also a member of the company's 25 Year Club. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in York and of the Primetimers group at church. He was a charter member of the Viking Athletic Association and was a member of the Dover area AARP, Chapter # 3875. Mr. Cooper was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by two sons, Elwood “Bill” Cooper of Dover and Donald E. Cooper of Shiloh; five grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Cooper and Harold Cooper, both of York; two sisters, Betty Rohrbaugh and Janet Stough, both of York; nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 301 W. Philadelphia Street, York, PA 17404.
