Titus was a millwright by trade. After he had helped his father build their first home (the first in the Sauquoit Valley) he commenced work erecting a mill. He was assited by D. Sheldon Marsh another millwright from Middletown, CT who arrived soon after the Gilberts. In due time they completed and put into operation the first grist mill on the stream using burrstones.
Titus must have remembered "the girl next door"as he returned to New Hartford from Sauquoit, NY in 1798 to marry Elizabeth Andrus, daughter of Nehemiah and Phebe (Benham) Andrus.
Titus did not enjoy a long life. He died at the age of 29 leaving Elizabeth with four boys all less than 4 years of age.
He was originally buried in Old Saquoit Cemetery and re-interred in Saquoit Valley Cemetery.
