Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 20, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. The Rev. David Lawson will officiate. Organist will be Deb Mohr and vocalist will be Henry Bentley. Pallbearers will be Leo Hein, Delmar Gilbert, Darryl Gilbert, Keith Meyer, Bill Meyer, and Ronnie Ralfs. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.
Bernice Opal Bailey was born January 22, 1914, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Theresa Bailey. She married Emil Bernard Gilbert on January 7, 1930, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1984. She loved to play Bingo and cards, however her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice (Alan) Ralfs of Stockton, Marlene (Robert) Westphal of Davenport, and Donna (Arthur) Ramirez of Wilton; one son, Kenneth (Mary) Gilbert of Davenport; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Corrine (Louis) Tertipes of Moline, IL, Shirley (Henry) Cocquit of Geneseo, IL, and Beverly (Leo) Bartel of Branson, MO; and two brothers, Kermit Bailey of Waukegan, IL, and Virgil Bailey of Colona, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Dorothy Moeller, one brother, Walter Bailey, and two grandchildren, Debbie Westphal and Brian Ralfs.
