Weston's Mills--Bertha C. Sherman, formerly of 1036 Promised Land Road, Weston's Mills, died Monday (Feb. 25, 2002) in the Waters of Allegany. Born Jan. 2, 1906 in the town of Portville, she was a daughter of Murry Eugene and Dolly May Jobe Crandall. On Sept. 8, 1924, in Olean, she married John Sherman who predeceased her in August 1968. A resident of Weston's Mills for over 60 years, Mrs. Sherman was employed during WWII at the Eldred Munitions Co., later at Ka-Bar Cutlery and at the Olean House. She was a life member of the Weston's Mills Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, a member of the Olean Senior League and RSVP, and she loved her animals. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy A. (L. Elwood "Woody") Farrar of Olean; a son, Howard (Sally) Sherman of Apopka, Fla.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two Sisters, Lula and Celia; and four brothers, Arthur, Mansil, Raymond and Carl. Friends may call at the Guenther funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean, Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) from 6 to 8 p.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Richard Keel will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Weston's Mills Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary or the SPCA of Cattaraugus County.
