Virginia Ruth Cates, 79, of the Chambers Community, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at a local nursing center. Born Jan. 24, 1933, in Konawa, she was the daughter of Daniel Nash Sr. and Bessie (O'Kelly) Nash. She married Tom Cates on Oct. 25, 1952, in McAlester. She worked as a medical aide at Colonial Lodge Nursing Center in McAlester. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judy Gayle Stinnett and husband, James, of McAlester; one brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Lorene Nash, of Kiowa; sister-in-law, Almeda Nash; aunts, Joy Dillon, Marie Standridge and Nina Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Cates; parents; daughter, Vivian Ruth Cates; sons, Tommy Allen Cates and Richard Dale Cates; sister, Altha Lanes; brothers, Billy, Tom, Jim and David Nash, and brother-in-law, Kirk Grubbs. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chambers Cemetery with Faith Lindley officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
