Revolutionary Soldier

John Eills (Earle) was born May 16, 1746, in Boxford, MA, the son of William and the grandson of William. He came to Rindge, NH soon after the incorporation of the town. He married in Groton, MA, July 17, 1773, Rebecca Page, daughter of Joseph Page, then of Groton, subsequently of Rindge. In the Revolution he was a signatory of the "Association Test" in Rindge in 1776, John served in Capt. William Tucker's company, Col. Jacob Gerrish's regiment in 1778 and was later was Ens. of militia in Rindge. John and Rebecca settled on the farm later occupied by Josiah Stratton. He was several years the tax collector and constable, during the Revolution the town's portion of the State tax was frequently paid by him. John and Rebecca had nine children. John died May 10, 1803, aged 57 years.
