Bronchitis Aggravated By Dust Fatal To Aged Pomona Citizen
Mrs. Ellen Experence Wickam aged 83, for 78 years a resident of Franklin County, Kansas, died at 3 o'clock Sunday morning at her home in Pomona from bronchitis aggravate by dust. She had been ill 10 days. She was the oldest resident of Franklin County.
Ellen E. Parkinson was born April 5, 1852 at Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Jonathan and Sophia Parkinson.
When 6 weeks old the family came in a covered wagon to Wyandotte County, Kansas. They settled later in Leavenworth County, and in 1857, to near Pomona, Kansas. Her father and husband freighted with ox teams from Westport to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She attended log cabin school, Oakland school. Mr. and Mrs. Dehahs were among the early teachers there.
She and Morgan Wickam were married Feb. 11,1871 at the home 7 miles Northeast of Pomona.
Mr. Wickam was a Civil War Veteran. He died June 21, 1896. She is survived by 3 daughters; Dolly Lucinda Blackwell, Mrs. E.E. (Laura) Glenn of Sedan, Kansas, and Mrs. S.S. (May) Gordon, Quenemo, Kansas. 3 sons: Jonathan H. Wickam, Baker, Oregon, Frank M. Wickam and Joseph M.Wickam, Wheatland, Wyo., 27 granchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Molle E. Blackwell, Halfway, Oregon, Mrs. Mattie Holman, Thompson Falls, Montana; and 2 brothers; Amos F. Parkinson, Long Beach, California, John Parkinson, Pomona, Kansas.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the O.E.S. Lodge of Pomona, Kansas. Funeral services will be conducted from the Pomona Presbyterian Church, Tuesday at 3 o'clock. Burial in the Woodlawn Cemetary. She died April 21, 1935.
