Jean A. Allum, 89, passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012, at Serenity Home in Oregon, Ogle County, Illinois. Daughter of Wesley Carl Johanningmeier and Anna Marie Wiedenmann, Jean Amanda Christina was born August 24, 1922, in Monona, Clayton County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. An elder sister was her teacher at Evergreen Grove District No. 5, a one-room schoolhouse she attended through fifth grade. Graduating from Monona High School in 1940, Jean moved to Davenport, Scott County, attended AIC Business College, and married Jack L. Allum in 1941. She was a secretary for 30 years at the Rock Smith Company, Davenport. Jean and her husband subsequently owned and operated the J. L. Allum Company department store in Oregon, Illinois, retiring in 1995. Ten generations of her Johanningmeier ancestors in Germany and their descendants in the U.S. are chronicled in the genealogy publications Johanningmeier-Drahn-Schrader, Clayton County, Iowa, that include Jean, her immediate and extended family.

Survivors include a daughter, son-in-law, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a sister, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, two sisters and a brother.

A private funeral service was conducted at Cunnick-Collins Funeral Home in Davenport on Monday, April 2. Rev. Donald Combs officiated. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park where her infant daughter, husband, parents, in-laws, two sisters and a brother-in-law are interred.
