ABERNATHY - A memorial service for Delbert (Dee) Dentis Lott, 82, of Abernathy, Texas, will be held at Abernathy Church of Christ on Saturday, April 7th, 2012 at 1 p.m. Visitation will follow in their Fellowship Hall.

Dee passed away April 3rd, 2012 in Lubbock, Texas. Dee was born September 23, 1929 to John Dentis Lott and Edna May Taylor Lott of Hiway, New Mexico.

He attended schools in Hiway and Fort Sumner, N.M. He also attended ENMU, studying Industrial Arts and Bible. He was a Korean US Army Veteran. As a member of the 45th Infantry, 180th Division, Company L. Riflery unit, Dee served in the motor pool on the front lines for 14 months. He was always proud of his service for the good of the USA. Dee exchanged wedding vows with Edith Sue Bozeman of Springlake, Texas on June 5, 1955, and by God's kindness, shared 56 years of faithful marriage. They raised their family in Roswell, N.M., and moved to Abernathy, in 2001. During Dee's life, he worked at a variety of occupations. Early in life he apprenticed under his father as a blacksmith, metal-worker/welder and later taught welding at New Mexico Vocational Rehabilitation. After serving in Korea, while residing in Springlake, Dee did land-leveling and benching, operating heavy equipment in Lamb and surrounding counties. As his interest in car engines developed, at age fifteen, he was responsible for keeping the Roosevelt County school busses making their routes, went on to manage an auto service-station in Pecos, Texas, then taught auto-mechanics to high school students in Roswell. In another area of interest, Dee worked as an oil-refinery plant operator for CITGO in Bluitt, N.M. In later years, because Dee had also always enjoyed carpentry, for about a decade he worked as a full-time carpenter, rebuilding and remodeling homes. Throughout Dee's different trades, he was always known as a great storyteller.

Family members left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Sue; three sisters, Leccy Hutchinson of El Cajon, Calif., Irene Allen of Lubbock, and Minnie Mae (Jane) Estes of Roswell, N.M.; and one brother, Homer Lott of Caldwell, Idaho. His three children are, his son, Delbert Dee Lott and wife, Laurie, of Abilene, Texas; and his daughters, Carolyn Sue Harris with husband Jimmy Harris, of Aubrey, Texas, and Melodie Jane Voigt with husband Joel Voigt, of Abernathy. His thirteen grandchildren with spouses include Jordan and Brent Eaton, Adam and Heather Lott, Charisa and Tommy Bosworth, Landon Harris, Bethany and Peter Rench, Schaeffer Harris, Melodie Lib Harris, Boice Harris, Will Voigt, Jake Voigt, Matt Voigt, Cody Henson, and Bella Henson. He has three great-grandchildren and a faithful friend of almost fifty years, Ron Rice.

Dee loved helping and serving others. But the greatest love of his life was in serving Christ Jesus, his Savior. The Dee Lott family gives thanks for God's faithfulness. They greatly appreciate church family and friends for all the loving help given them at this time. They want to also thank the wonderful Accolade Home Health caregivers. Gifts of memorial may be sent to New Mexico Christian Children's Home (1356 NM 236, Portales, NM, 88130-9411) and Abernathy EMS (811 Ave. D, Abernathy TX 79311).
