Joseph Charles Rombach Jr. passed away from this life April 2, 2012 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO. He was 88 years old.

Mr. Rombach was born August 2, 1923 in Haskell, Oklahoma to Joseph C. Rombach Sr. and Verda (Martin) Rombach. His parents owned and operated a rural service station and garage. He grew up helping his father in the business. He graduated from Haskell High School in 1939 at the age of 15.

Mr. Rombach served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during World War II as a mechanic in the B-24 Four –Engine Bomber Groups of the Eighth Air Force stationed at Attlebridge Air Base in England. After the war he attended N.E.O. A&M College for one semester. He worked at B.F. Goodrich from 1946 until his retirement and served as a union steward. On December 26, 1949 he married Hazel (Lewis) Victory in the First Baptist Church Parlor in Miami.

Joe Rombach was a member of the United Rubber Workers Retirees Group (S.O.A.R.) and N.A.R.F.E. of Ottawa County. He was a former member of the Miami Travel Club. He had many interests over the years. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, welder, mechanic, reader, bird watcher and sports fan (especially O.U. football). He had many home workshop projects and could fix most anything. He and his wife had traveled extensively across the U.S.A.

Mr. Rombach was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Rombach of Grand Island, Nebraska and Charles Rombach of Haskell. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel Rombach, one son Michael Victory of Miami and one brother Jack Rombach and his wife Emma of Littleton, Colorado.

The funeral will be held Thursday April 5, 2012 at 11:00am at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Dr. J. Fulton Amonette will officiate. Burial will be at Glen Abby Memorial Garden east of Miami under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #147 Funeral Detail of Miami.
