Virginia Meyer

DICKINSON,TX - Virginia Meyer was born in Wadsworth, Texas to Hayward and
Eddie Long on January 8, 1921. Her early years were spent on the family's
rice farming operation in Matagorda, County, and later in Gulf, Texas near
the coast. The family moved to Newgulf and Virginia graduated from nearby
Boling High School and went on to attend nursing school at Houston's St.
Joseph Hospital.

In 1940, the family moved to Dickinson where she remained for 65 years until
her death. When World War II erupted, both Virginia, and her mother, joined
the war effort by working at Hitchcock's Camp Wallace as nurses. It was
there that she met her future husband, Kenzie Meyer. The two were married
for more than 40 years. He died in 1989.

Virginia also worked as a medical volunteer in the aftermath of the 1947
Texas City, Disaster. Virginia was active in the Order of the Eastern Star,
twice serving as Worthy Grand Matron. In later years she was an active
member of the Bay Area Republican Women. Virginia was a longtime member of
Dickinson's Faith Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Billye Pawlik and husband, Robert Pawlik, a
brother, Steven Long, and a sister Joyce Rogers; grandsons Lance and Richard
Pawlik; nephews, Jay Rogers and Croft Casey; nieces, Rene Nations, Jan
Evans, Michelle Brown and Monique Littlejohn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Faith
Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastor L.R. Juull officiating. There will
be a graveside service at 2 p.m. at the Schulenberg City Cemetery in
Schulenberg, Texas.

A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Crowder
Funeral Home in Dickinson.

Pallbearers are Lance Pawlik, Richard Pawlik, Anthony Salvato, Danial
Salvato, Sam Salvato, Jay Rogers and John Pawlik. Virginia Meyer will be
buried alongside her husband in City Cemetery, Schulenberg, Texas.

The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of
Dickinson's La Vita Bella Personal Care Home where she happily spent her
final years.
