SAMMIE JONES JR.

NEWPORT -- Sammie Jones, Jr., 65, and of Oldtown, died on April 17 at the Newport Hospital following a short illness.
Sammie was born to Sammie Sr. and Isma (Trudaway) Jones in Mabton, Arkansas on April 6, 1930. He had just celebrated his 65th birthday.
On Sept. 18, 1948 he married Ruth Mable Elmer in Stevenson, Wash. He and his family moved to Oldtown in 1977 from St. Maries. He worked for many years as a carpenter, and as a self-employed logger. He last worked for five years for the Bonner County Landfill, retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working out-of-doors. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ruth, at their home in Oldtown; two daughters, Claudiette (and Bob) O'Connell of Fernwood, Idaho; LaRue Wynekoop of Newport; a son, Christ (and Diane) of Newport; five grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Beare of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Paul Beare of Idaho Falls (Terreton), Stanley and Robert Beare, both of Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Florence Beare of Medimont, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Samuel Jones, in 1970; a granddaughter, Chanel Ruth O'Connel, in 1990, and a brother, Kenneth Beare.
Private cremation services were handled by Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home, Newport. An inurnment will take place on a later date at Toutle Lake, Wash.
