Asher Richards, 88, of Reading, and formerly of Little Street in Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at the Reading Hospital, West Reading. Born March 22, 1911, in Mountaintop, he was the son of the late Edward and Arcilla (Weitknect) Richards.
He was a former member of the Christ United Presbyterian Church, Lee Park section of Hanover Township.
He served in the Armor Division of the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II.
Before retiring he worked for General Dynamics, Wilkes-Barre, and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 401.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Pearl Cooksey and Alice Stout; and brother, Norman Richards.
Surviving are his wife, the former Emily Bond; son, Asher, Reading; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Kniffen-O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Robert A. Boyar, of Christ United Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday.
