NEWPORT NEWS - MSgt. Wendell 'Buck' Holmes Campbell, 74, USAF, Retired, died Saturday, June 3, 2006. A native of Amherst County, Va., he had been a Peninsula resident for more than 50 years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, and then was a stock handler for AAFES for 10 years.

Survivors include two children, Major Robert G. Campbell, USAF, Retired, of Niceville, Fla., and Kerry S. Johnson and her husband, Andrew P., of Smithfield; and two sisters, Wainola Inez Holloman of Newport News and Zula Lowrell Bryant of Lynchburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia M. Campbell; four sisters, Alpha Omega Dillard, Manila Isabell Patteson, Eudora C. Smith and Evangeline Zora Wade; and two brothers, James Edward Campbell and Howard Stern Campbell.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors in Peninsula Memorial Park.
