He was a farmer by occupation and credited with founding three Masonic Lodges in early 1850-1860 Wisconsin in three different counties. They are Union Lodge No.32, Janesville, Rock Co. founded 8 Dec 1850; Frontier Lodge No. 45, 16 June 1853 of LaCrosse, WI.; and Valley Lodge No. 60, 17 Aug. 1854, Sparta, Monroe County, WI. All Charters granted under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin.
He moved with his father John McMillan in 1821 to Huron Co., Ohio where he met and married Clarissa Brown d/o Ezra Brown and Elizabeth Newell Brown. The McMillan's moved next to Seneca Co., Ohio where Morrison McMillan was first constable of Scipio Township. In 1831 they moved to Milton Twp., Wood Co., Ohio and in 1848 to Leyden, Rock Co., WI., where Morrison McMillan's cousin Benjamin Sill McMillan and wife, Achsah "Axy" (Brown) McMillan,
Clarissa's sister, Achsah and Benjamin Sill McMillan owned a Hotel and Stage Coach stop.
They had twelve children: Rachel, John, Orlando, Charlotte, Jane Agnes, Matilda C., Morrison Jr., Sarah B., Daniel, child name unknown, Mary and Amanda McMillan.
After founding the Union Lodge in Janesville, the McMillan family again moved to the LaCrosse-Monroe Co., area settling on a farm in Sparta. Besides founding three Masonic Lodges, Morrison was Chairman, Select Committee of the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin in 1853 and was Grand Lecturer under the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin in 1854, and founder of Sparta Chapter No. 19, Royal Arch Masons, and its first Excellent High Priest in 1859.
