William was the son of Jeremiah Fly & Zilpha Pipkin. He married Nicea Sooter in about 1825 in TN. They were the parents of 3 boys & 6 girls.
Some family researchers say his middle name was Asher. He had a brother named Asher Pipkin Fly.
