Evelyn Viola Berry was born in Clovis, New Mexico on December 22, 1915 to Josephine Beatrice Merrell and Ruben Francis Coffee(y). Evelyn had three younger siblings all were sisters. Their names in order of their birth was Helen Coffee(y) Wall, Gladys Coffee(y) Henderson (interred as Hennings), and baby sister Maudie Coffee(y) Gillespie (interred as Armstrong). Evelyn and Maudie were both small like their Mother Josephine and Grandfather William "Billy" Merrell. Evelyn married twice once to Philip Alvin Almquist in the thirties and had one child Philip Alvin Almquist Jr. on February 26, 1934 in Amarillo, Texas. She had a difficult birth and tragedy struck when Philip Alvin Jr died at about 1 year old. The cause of his death remains a mystery to this day. He is believed to have died and is buried in NM (research pending). Evelyn never quite recovered emotionally from her loss of the child for the rest of her life.

Evelyn married Joseph Berry in San Diego, CA in 1944 and gave birth to Joseph Ruben Berry (affectionately called little Joey by the family) on April 11, 1945. Evelyn came to the Bay Area in California about 1960 until her death in San Francisco, CA in 1976. She was buried at Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma, California without a marker.

Evelyn was a good woman who had a hard life after the loss of her first child. She was loved by her Mother, Father, sisters and son Joey. Evelyn you may rest in peace now that you are reunited with your three sisters, Mother, Father, and sons Joey and Phillip Alvin. You were loved and are remembered.
