Funeral services for Robert L. Pierce, 83 years of age, were held at 2 ofclock Monday at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Voiles, Owensboro, in charge. Burial was in the Saloma Cemetery.
Mr. Pierce, a native of the county, died at his home in Owensboro, Ky., Route 2, Saturday, November 8, after a long illness. He professed faith early in life and was a member of the Otter Creek Baptist Church which he served as a deacon for 25 years. He united in marriage to Miss Bettie Allen in 1897 who preceded him in death in 1935. To this union four sons and four daughters were born. Surviving are Roscoe Pierce, Taylor County, Nellie Raley, Sullivan, Indiana, Mrs. Grace Stevens, Owensboro, and Mrs. Eva Gatton, Rock Island, Illinois. In 1935 he was married to Miss Arvivian McNear and to this union eight sons and two daughters were born. Surviving are Charles, Tommy, Early, Bobby, John, Gary, Mae, and Mary Jo Pierce, all at home. He is also survived by a brother and five sisters: Henry Pierce, Mac, Taylor County, Mrs. Delia Skaggs, Larue County, Mrs. Eddie Stillwell, Harden County, Mrs. Henry Skaggs, Taylor County, Mrs. Julia Specht, Louisville, and Mrs. Lona Hines, Larue County. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Pierce formerly lived near Finley, and kept the county farm for eight years, moving to Owensboro some 18 years ago. The pallbearers were Gerald Raley, Garland Raley, Mike Raley, Johnny Spratt, Junior Spratt, and Paul Pierce.
