Daniel J. Barnhart Sr., 74, of 5023 Wright Road, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital. Born June 1, 1928, is Worleytown, Pa., he was the son of the late Wintferd and Florence Minnich Barnhart.
His wife, Dorothy M. Lemaster Barnhart, died July 26, 1994. They were married Sept. 1, 1950.
He retired in 1989 from Chambersburg Engineering Co.
He served as minister of the People's Gospel Tabernacle in Hagerstown for 20 years, and was active with World Harvest Missions organizing fund-raising efforts.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and South Mountain (Pa.) Fish and Game Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra M. Stevens of Mercersburg, Pa., and Deborah S. Atherton of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sons, Martin T. Rachilla of Charlotte, Mich., and Daniel J. Barnhart Jr. of Fort Loudon, Pa.; three sisters, Alice K. Stumbaugh and Patricia M. Myers, both of Greencastle, Pa., and Daisy F. Southerland of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Rinehart; and five brothers, Paul Barnhart, Robert Barnhart, Warren Barnhart, Donald Barnhart and Henry Barnhart.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Revs. Lonnie Shover and David Huntoon will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg, with military services by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
