He was born on September 5, 1830 in Tuscarawas, Stark County, Ohio. He was the youngest of five children. They were raised on a farm.

He was about 22 and Margaret A. Jones was about 17 when they married about 1852.

The 1860 census revealed they were living in Tuscarawas, Stark County, Ohio next door to his parents.

They had six children, of which three died before the age of five.

They had three sons and three daughters:

They had been married about fourteen years when Margaret died April 15, 1866 when their youngest was only one.

Marriage Record revealed Aaron married Melissa Harbarger on July 7, 1867 in Stark County, Ohio.

He was thirty-seven and Melissa was nineteen. Their daughter, Ida was born in January of 1867.

The 1870 census revealed they lived in Orrivell, Baughman, Wayne County, Ohio. He was a grocer and they had his two sons and their two daughters living at home.

The 1880 census revealed he was a farmer, they were living in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. They had his one son and their two daughters still at home.

They had two daughters:

Ida Bell Altland (Oberlin) (b.1867 d.1896)
Minnie M. Altland (Culler) (b.1870 d.1953)

Their daughter Ida Oberlin died on Sept 17, 1896.

Will (December 16, 1893) revealed he desired that the farm not be sold for at least two years after his death. He bequethed to his beloved wife, Melissa: one horse, black mare, Jennie, two cows, four pigs, one buggy, wagon and sleigh and all the household goods including the organ, except the Melodian. She shall have the use of the garden, 1/2 acre land for a potato patch, 1/2 fruit grown, 1/4 the hay raised, 1/4 the grain raised and as much of the straw as needed for her stock, as much of the dwelling house as she may choose and room in the barn for her stock, carriage, wagon and sleigh. All this to be hers as long as she remained his widow and not marry.

He appointed W.D. Oberlin to be his exceuitor. The execuitor shall get 1/4 of the proceeds of the farm to tend to everything needed until time to equally divide his estate between his children: Andrew, Josiah, Louisa Arnold, Ida Oberlin and Minnie Culler. To his two sons also $150 each for their service to him in the past. In the case where coal be mined, it should be divided into 5 1/2 shares. The 1/2 share to go to my widow unless she married.

Two years after his death, the farm may be sold by the heirs provided they can agree when and pay to his widow her dower right in the same. It was signed with an X meaning he couldn't write.

Death Record revealed he died of stroke on December 3, 1896 in Stanwood, Stark, Ohio.
