As a child Virgil lived in Ft. Green and worked hard on the family farm. As an adult he joined the United States Army. He served in both Africa and Italy. PVT. Virgil W. Coombs fought with the Army Infantry as troops edged their way up the boot of Italy. Virgil was killed in action while serving his country on July 1st 1944. Virgil was 33 years old at this time. He served his Country proudly and his family remain proud of him.
