Published in the Athens Review, Jan 12, 1939 - T.L. Shinn, 54, former Athenian and father of Mrs. Ed Dorbandt of this city, died at the family home in Ben Wheeler at 4:30 Friday afternoon. Mr. Shinn had been ill for some time and only recently recovered from pneumonia which left him in a weakened condition. He had suffered a number of heart attacks following the recent illness, the latest coming on Thursday. Mrs. Dorbandt was at his bedside when the end came. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon at the Methodist Church at Ben Wheeler with burial following at Holly Springs cemetery in that county. Services were in charge of Rev. W.M. Bass. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Shinn lived at Athens where he was engaged in the cotton business. They moved to Ben Wheeler nine years ago and had made their home there since.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Dorbandt of Athens and Mrs. Ralph Pitts of Canton; two sons, Joe of Columbia, South Carolina and Richard. Members of the family have not heard from the latter in the past six months.
Pallbearers were C.W. Simpson, B.W. Clark, Wendell Stringer, Harold Stringer, Curtis Stringer, Wesley Chandler and Ernest Shinn.
