Death of Waterman from injuries received in the Grizzly Mine. [History of Tuolumne County, 1888]
I think his name was C. D. Waterman, a 23 year old man from New York who was a miner living in Sonora in 1860, but I am not 100 percent certain.
Here is the original publication of the accident:
The Union Democrat - Aug 4, 1860 - Page 2 Accident -- A man by the name of Waterman was dangerously injured a few days since at the Grizzly claim, in the mountains, by the caving of a bank of earth.
The Union Democrat - Jan 12, 1861 - Page 2
Dead: Mr. Waterman, the young man who was injured in August last by the falling of a rock, while working in the tunnel of the Grizzly claim, expired in this city on Thursday morning, after a lingering illness of over five months. He was confined to his bed from the hour of the accident until death came to his relief, being nearly helpless all the time, and suffering dreadfully. He had the best of medical attendance, and also the untiring assistance of true, warm-hearted friends, who ceased not their attentions until his remains were deposited in the grave. Mr. Waterman was an honest, industrious young man, and had been in the State but a few years.
