Adam Bortzfield, Sr., a highly respected farmer of Conestoga township, whose illness we noticed a week ago, died on Saturday morning in his eighty-third year, having been born July 30, 1817, in Manor township. He learned the trade of carpenter with the late John Eberly, but eventually turned his attention to farming, having been on the farm on which he died fifty years ago. He was married in 1844 to Miss Susan Foutz, who had been dead twenty-four years. The following children survive: Adam, Jr., of Colemanville; Martin, of Lancaster; Amos, of Maytown; Ezra L., of Conestoga Centre; Kate, wife of Frank Shultz, of Providence; Susan, wife of Addison Benedict of Conestoga Centre. Deceased was a member of the Mennonite Church. Two brothers died recently at advanced ages. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Waller, aged eighty-seven years, and a brother, Henry, of Mt. Joy, who is seventy-eight years old. (The Semi-Weekly New Era - Aug 9, 1899)
