Bethlehem Globe Times, 5/9/1899:
"Jacob Rentzheimer, one of the oldest residents of Lower Saucon Township, died last night at his home, a half mile south of Hellertown. The deceased was 79 years of age and was one of the largest owners of lands in the district. The deceased and his wife, who died some few years ago, presented a large bell which is now in the belfry of Christ Union Church. The same, strange to say, was tolled for the first time to announce the death of Mrs. Rentzheimer, one of the donors. The deceased is survived by three sisters [Mary Elizabeth (Rentzheimer) Harris, Catherine (Rentzheimer) Boyer and Matilda Rentzheimer], and one daughter, the latter Mrs. T. O. Bachman, of Lower Saucon. The funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the late home of the deceased, when services will be held by Rev. W. J. Bieber. Burial will be made in Hellertown Cemetery." [names in brackets added by Gregg D. Freese]

Easton Express, 5/10/1899:
"Jacob Rentzheimer, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Lower Saucon, died at the old homestead where he was born, just south of Hellertown, of apoplexy, on Monday night, in the 80th year of his age. Deceased was a member of the Lutheran church and was on the building committee when the first church in Hellertown was built. In politics the deceased was a staunch Democrat. He was married to Miss Mary Earhard (sic), who preceded him to the grave two years ago. Three sisters, Miss Matilda Rentzheimer, Mrs. Joseph Boyer and Mrs. Joseph Harris, and one daughter, Mrs. Titus Bachman, all of Lower Saucon, survive. The funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from his late home."
