Nannie Barbee, Popular Dialect Reader, Is Dead
LEXINGTON, Ky., Nov. 9. (AP) Miss Nannie Barbee, representative of one of Central Kentucky's oldest and most prominent families and a native of Boyle county, died at a hospital here today following a two months illness.
Miss Barbee for 12, or 15 years, had made her home at Washington, D .C., but came to Lexington the first of September for a visit to her nephew, Dr. I. D. Best and Mrs. Best.
Miss Barbee was famous as a reader of southern dialect stones, possessing rare charm as a story teller. She appeared in the larger cities of the east and south, giving readings.
Miss Barbee was the last surviving member of the family of 12 children.
Miss Barbee's body was removed to the home of her nephew, Dr. Best and Thursday morning will be taken to Danville for funeral at 11 o'clock in the Second Presbyterian church.
