William "Bill" Karr, 91, of Scio passed away Saturday at the Timberwood Court Specialty Care Center in Albany.
Bill was born in Marlow, Okla., the son of John Raymond and Frances Rebecca (Morgan) Karr. He moved from Oklahoma to Southern California in the 1930s. He resided near Yucaipa, Calif., where he attended and completed school. He served in the Army for three years during World War II.
He moved to Scio in 1959 where he had resided since. Bill worked as a mechanic and a logger for many years. He retired from the Linn County Road Department as a grader operator. He also served as the fire chief for the Scio Fire Department for over 10 years.
Bill attended the Scio Baptist Church and was a member of the Scio Masonic Lodge 39 and the Lebanon American Legion Post 51. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and going to the annual family reunions.
Bill married Betty May Carter in Long Beach, Calif., on Jan. 22, 1943. Betty preceded him in death in 1996. He was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by daughters Cheryl and husband Jimmie Sanders of Scio, Janice Conover of Scio, and Karen and husband Ed Brown of Stayton; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Scio Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery near Scio.
Family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Scio Fire Department in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, OR 97355.
