Son of Nelson Dickerman & Hannah (Vaughn) Dickerman and one of the first white settlers in Labette Co., Kansas. A. T. Dickerman became a civilian scout for Colonel Thurston of Humboldt of the Union army during the Civil War and made many treks down the Neosho River in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. He was the first county clerk and justice of the peace. A. T. traded with the Indians and could speak several languages. In later years, he wrote stories and articles about his adventures. He first married Jane Martin on 4 Jul 1858 in Greene Co., Illinois.
After her death, he married Mary Elizabeth Kingsbury on 1 May 1870 in Labette Co., Kansas. He was the father of 14 known children, many of whom died young.
